Using j-pop to learn about のに

Listening to j-pop is a great way to learn or reinforce elements of grammar and vocabulary. (IOW, the essence of Nagara Nihongo!)

For example, in a recent song by Ren, 空っぽ (karappo empty), you can hear のに at the end of several lines in the lyrics. We might translate のに as "although" or "in spite of" but without any context it's hard to image when to use it. Listening to the lyrics gives you a clear picture of what he means by のに .

By the way, if you're watching a video (such as this one) that doesn't include the lyrics in the original video, you can turn on close captioning/subtitles by clicking on the CC. Then click on the gear and make sure the language is set to Japanese.
